Altru Health looks to take over CommonSpirit hospitals in Bismarck, Turtle Lake & Garrison

BISMARCK, N.D. – Altru Health System is looking into acquiring three North Dakota hospitals owned by CommonSpirit.

They are CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, Turtle Lake and Garrison.

Altru and CommonSpirit officials have signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore a possible agreement.

“This is a natural next step in exploring how we can continue to support strong, sustainable healthcare for the region,” CommonSpirit Health Central Region President Tim Bricker said.

“Altru has a long history of serving communities across North Dakota and northwest Minnesota and our organizations share a deep respect for the people we serve and the responsibility that comes with delivering local healthcare,” Altru CEO Todd Forkel said. “We look forward to working more closely with CommonSpirit to strengthen access to care for patients and families well into the future.”

Any agreement would be pending regulatory review and approval.

Recently CHI St. Alexius Health in Devils Lake has transitioned to Altru.
