Altru Hospital implements visitor restrictions amid increased Influenza A cases

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Areas of Altru Hospital in Grand Forks are restricting visitors.

The regional healthcare system cites an increase in Influenza A cases as the reason for visitors being requested to wear masks to visit the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Altru Cancer Center. These measures are in place until further notice and are intended to help protect patients at higher risk for complications from respiratory illnesses.

Anyone with symptoms of illness is also asked to limit visits.

The state is reporting more than 800 cases of influenza statewide for the week ending December 20, bringing the state’s season total to more than 1,600 cases. Since the influenza season began, 130 have been hospitalized – with 57 in the most recent reporting weekly period.
