Authorities take wanted suspect into custody after hours-long standoff at south Fargo hotel

FARGO, N.D. – Several law enforcement agencies were called in to resolve a standoff with a wanted suspect at a south Fargo hotel on Monday night.

The Fargo Police Department says 31-year old Trevor Nelson, who had an outstanding felony warrant, was located at a hotel just after 8 p.m. along the 1700 block of 44th Street South and refused to come out.

After evacuating the hotel, police called in other law enforcement support, which included the Red River Valley SWAT Team, the Grand Forks Regional SWAT Team, West Fargo Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

At one point, authorities say they deployed a “chemical irritant” to try and force Nelson out of his room.

At 2:27 a.m. on Tuesday morning, which was more than 6 hours later, Nelson was eventually taken into custody.

“This incident highlights the Fargo Police Department’s core value of Guardianship and Professionalism of our officers,” said Neighborhood Services Capt. Travis Moser said in a statement.

“We are grateful for our law enforcement partners, and the safe resolution of a potentially dangerous situation.”
