NORTH DAKOTA – Authorities say you should be mindful of a pig butchering scam in North Dakota.
The scams entice victims to believe they get big returns through long-term investments. Using artificial intelligence, scammers contact victims through email, text and online chatbots to seem more credible.
The goal is to gain access to victims’ accounts to steal their money, or to trick them into voluntarily giving up their money through faulty investments.
Authorities say over $6 billion is lost annually due to pig butchering scams.
