Battery storage sites are being considered in North Dakota

NORTH DAKOTA – North Dakota utility regulators are considering building battery storage sites.

They would be the first of its kind for the state and would be used as backups for renewable energy sources.

They hold energy when it’s produced in excess, like when wind farms see especially windy days, or solar panels absorbing more sun energy than the power grid demands.

The sites could help reduce congestion on power grids and alleviate cost fluctuations that cause price spikes for customers.
