Bill provides funding from N.D. Agriculture Department to support new statewide food distribution center

(FARGO, ND) – The Great Plains Food Bank says a landmark bill has been signed by North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong.

House Bill 1143 provides a one-time funding allotment of $5 million from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The funding will help support construction of a new statewide food distribution center – and will be matched dollar-for-dollar by private donors to the Great Plains Food Bank, creating a public-private partnership.

The partnership expands food access statewide. Melissa Sobolik, CEO of the Great Plains Food bank, says the new center will allow Great Plains Food Bank to ‘accept, store, and distribute more food to more people across North Dakota, efficiently and sustainably.’

Construction is expected to get underway in 2027.
