Bird flu impacts flocks in ND, SD and MN

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Officials are responding to a bird flu outbreak across the upper Midwest.

The virus is heavily impacting commercial and backyard flocks in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota.

Officials say detections are higher in the fall and spring because birds spread the virus as they migrate to their seasonal homes.

In the past 30 days, officials have confirmed the virus in 17 flocks (11 commercial, six backyard).

At least 25,000 birds were affected at a commercial flock in Redwood County, Minnesota in September.

Hundreds of thousands of birds were affected in September across South Dakota.

More than 41,000 birds were impacted at a commercial flock in Lamoure County, North Dakota. As well as 60,300 at a commercial flock in Dickey County, ND.
