(MINNEAPOLIS, MINN) — The man accused of shooting four Minnesota lawmakers in the middle of the night, killing two, is now charged with capital murder.
A Federal Grand Jury has indicted Vance Boelter for stalking and killing State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and injuring Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. The Hoffmans were shot multiple times but survived. Prosecutors say they are certain Boelter was acting alone, and say his motive was political extremism. They say Boelter confessed but claims unnamed people threatened to hurt his family if he didn’t shoot the lawmakers.
Prosecutors say Boelter could face the death penalty. As a capital murder case, that decision would be up to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
