UPDATE: Authorities have also arrested a person of interest in the case
38-year-old Alonso Carlos LeBaron-Castro of West Fargo, who had local warrants and drug charges, is being booked into the county jail
Cass County, N.D. – The Cass County Jail had a brief scare dealing with two suspicious packages that were delivered to the facility on Tuesday morning.
But the Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the packages were determined not to be explosives.
Just before 7am, the sheriff’s office says someone dropped off the two boxes at the 24/7 Program entrance, and advised staff through the intercom system at the door to check them out.
The sheriff’s office says the boxes had visible “wires and other suspicious materials”, which promoted a lockdown.
The Red River Regional Bomb Squad, Regional Drone Team, and Fargo Fire were called in as a precaution.
First responders eventually cleared the packages and resumed normal jail operations.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office says they will continue “to work through the specifics of this incident as this investigation moves forward” but do not plan to release any further information.
