Caterer sentenced for exploiting child food program backed by Feeding Our Future

Minneapolis, M.N. – A Minneapolis caterer was sentenced to 51 months in prison for her part in exploiting a federally-funded child nutrition program that was sponsored by Feeding Our Future.

Prosecutors say 63-year old Sahra Mohamed Nur, who operated S & S Catering Inc., enrolled in the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the pandemic to service as a food distribution site.

Over the course of two years, prosecutors say Nur falsely claimed to have provided millions of meals to kids through partnering companies.

Nur received more than $10 million in payments, and over $16 million in reimbursements from Feeding Our Future.

Nur then used the money for her own personal use, including on commercial real estate.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Nancy Brasel called the loss amount “staggering” adding “public trust in government programs has significant decreased” because of Nur’s actions.

On top of the prison term, Nur was sentenced to 2 years of supervised released and was ordered to pay more than $5 million in restitution.
