JAMESTOWN, ND – Formal charges have been filed against the man police say holed himself up in Jamestown earlier this week.
Jacob Schmitt, 30, is charged with eight crimes in connection with an incident that led to a standoff on Wednesday. The eight charges include six Class C felonies and two misdemeanor charges. The felonies include terrorizing, prohibited possession of a firearm, preventing arrest, child neglect, possession of drug paraphernalia and prohibited acts/controlled substances.
According to court documents, police were called to the 1800 block of Western Park Village at before 2 a.m. Wednesday on a report of terrorizing. While speaking with the victim, authorities learned her baby’s daddy threatened to kill her and burn her. The responding officers learned Schmitt was still in the residence with the two-year-old child.
Due to the fact that the child was still in the home, and Schmitt had access to firearms, the Special Operations Team was activated and responded.
The Special Operations Team entered the residence several hours later and Schmitt was eventually placed under arrest. He initially refused to comply with the officer’s orders while being handcuffed, but eventually was handcuffed and arrested.
