LISTEN: Fargo Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz’ conversation with The Flag’s Steve Hallstrom
FARGO, N.D. – Fargo Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz says his top priorities include addressing staffing shortages and workload pressures.
The department is budgeted for 201 officers and has 232 employees including civilian positions. They aren’t fully staffed because of some resignations and retirements.
The department’s Police Academy is holding graduation on Wednesday, May 27 for cadets hired in January and will have field training graduation in the fall or early winter.
“We have to really stay on top of that. That’s really a focus for us to make sure we’re retaining people and making sure we’re recruiting that next generation of officers and employees so we can continue the good work that we’re doing,” Stefonowicz said.
The department has another Police Academy scheduled for July 6 for 10 to 15 cadets.
