MOORHEAD, Minn. – Churches United has a big goal for Giving Hearts Day: $1 million in donations to be used for operating funds for this year and 2027.
“That would allow us as an organization to focus on the needs at hand and actually build a sustainable model which is the thing that we’ve promised our public since I stepped into the role,” Churches United CEO Pastor Devlyn Brooks explained.
Last year the nonprofit received $490,000 on Giving Hearts Day. Churches United ended 2025 with a savings account Brooks said paid off its debt.
In August 2024, the organization asked for $61,000 to make payroll and $140,000 for operational costs.
Between Churches United’s shelter, the Dorothy Day Food Pantry, and the Bright Sky and Silver Linings apartments for those who have experienced homelessness, the organization serves 500 people per day.
