FARGO, ND – The City of Fargo is closer to officially hiring a new fire chief.
Gary Lorenz, who comes to Fargo after serving as the chief of the Grand Forks Fire Department, was appointed to succeed Steve Dirksen. In a memo to commissioners, City Administrator Michael Redlinger said the final component of the process wrapped up May 28 after a full-day assessment of the three finalist candidates – Lorenz, along with current Division Chiefs at the Fargo Fire Department, Tim Binfet and Craig Nelson.
He’s expected to be formally installed at a future commission meeting and swearing-in ceremony in July, after completing all pre-employment components of the city’s conditional offer phase.
