City Commission to continue broadcasting public comment period

FARGO, ND – Public comment will continue to be broadcast at all Fargo City Commission meetings.

The issue of broadcasting was brought up by Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney at the last City Commission meeting, with Mahoney saying the broadcasting of the comment period would not happen beginning with Monday night’s meeting.

However, Fargo City Commissioner and Deputy Mayor, Denise Kolpack, said Monday night that the move to stop broadcasting the comment period went against a policy that was enacted in 2018.

Commissioners agreed to continue airing the public comment period.

But Commissioner Michelle Turnberg said she had some concerns with public comments, saying comments were straying away from applying to issues within the community.

“I also think we should make a change to the rules that it applies to Fargo city business,” she said.

Mahoney clarified with City Attorney Nancy Morris what the next steps should be, and the commission will give input on any possible changes that would be brought to a future city commission meeting.
