MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Clay County Attorney’s Office will soon share information on its review of two deadly-officer involved shootings at a Moorhead apartment building on August 11, 2025.
A press conference has been scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 5.
According to the Ramsey County medical examiner, 42-year-old Nathan Heiberg of Moorhead and 41-year-old Lucas Heiberg of Grand Forks died.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the three Fargo Police Officers who used force during the incident. All three are also members of the Red River Valley SWAT Team and have been placed on critical incident leave.
- Sgt. Michael Anderson has 10 years of law enforcement experience.
- Sgt. Kyle Seehusen has 12 years of law enforcement experience.
- Officer Tyler Seehusen has eight years of law enforcement experience.
According to the BCA’s preliminary investigation, Moorhead Police were called for a report of a domestic assault and order for protection violation at an apartment on the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue North.
A woman said she was assaulted by Nathan and Lucas Heiberg while a five and a six-year-old were in the apartment.
Officers tried to talk to the men. While they were in the hallway, they forcibly opened the door and shots rang out from the apartment with officers exchanging shots.
Officers backed away as they called for additional help and began to evacuate nearby apartments.
Lucas Heilberg died at the apartment. Nathan Heilberg died at the hospital.
The children weren’t hurt.
Police say part of the incident was recorded on body-worn cameras.
