Victim attacked during Downtown Fargo assault has died

FARGO, N.D. (Flag Family News/Valley News Live) –  A man who was severely beaten in Downtown Fargo this month on the same morning of two deadly shootings has died.

A source familiar with the case told Flag Family Media the 55-year old victim died from injuries sustained during an attack shortly after 3am on Sunday, August 3rd.

Fargo’s public safety information team also confirmed the victim’s death, and says the man’s identity will be released publicly on Thursday.

Court documents have also provided more details on the case.

Fargo Police received a report of a man bleeding from the head on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Broadway N. Court documents say the original 911 caller found the man laying in a pool of blood outside of the Fargo Theater.

The records indicate the man claimed he was assaulted and said, “They attacked me and whacked me.” The documents say when EMS crews arrived, the victim became agitated and swung on emergency personnel.

Authorities say the man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, including multiple facial fractures.

Officers were able to obtain video footage from a nearby business that showed a man in dark-colored clothing hitting him with a skateboard.

According to the documents, Fargo Police were able to track the movements of the involved parties through officer-worn body camera footage, who were investigating a deadly shooting nearby.

Fargo Police previously asked the public for help in identifying the suspect, with a tip leading to the identification of 19-year-old, Tabias Jamal Walker.

Walker was arrested in Moorhead and is currently being held in the Clay County Jail.

He appeared in court today, August 13, where bond was set at $75,000 dollars.

If convicted, Walker faces a 10-year maximum sentence. Prosecutors add because he used a skateboard in the attack, there would be a minimum sentence of four years without parole.
