Senator Kevin Cramer on the FEMA issue speaking with WDAY Radio’s Jay Thomas
WASHINGTON, DC – The Federal Emergency Management Agency is looking to eliminate a portion of a rule that says a community must obtain an exception from FEMA prior to permitting the construction of residences with floodproofed basements below the Base Flood Elevation.
Senator Kevin Cramer says his office is working with FEMA to reverse their plan to eliminate the exemption.
“There’s no reason to do that,” he said. “They should be able to be exempt from the basement exemption, they should be able to put in basements.”
Cramer says he believes the issue has to do with a larger scope of focus – something his office is engaged with the agency on.
“I would just encourage everybody that has the issue or wants to raise the issue to call the office,” he said.
