Cramer says reports of U.S. military force to be used against drug cartels ‘could become a deterrent’ alone

North Dakota – While signaling he’s unsure about the exact action President Trump is taking, North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer says the reports alone that the U.S. could use its military against drug cartels could serve as a warning.

The New York Times reports Trump is directing the Pentagon to use force against cartels that are designated as foreign terror organizations.

“I’ve always believed that the cartels should be labeled [that way],” said Cramer on The Flag on Friday.  “And as such, that’s what makes it legal to utilize the military.”

Back in February, Trump did designate eight drug-trafficking organizations from Mexico, El Salvador and Venezuela as foreign terror groups.

Cramer says he “has not heard if he’s secretly doing anything like that” but supports the message being sent.

“To the degree that that kind of information could become a deterrent, that’s the best outcome possible,” said Cramer.

Cramer is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
