FARGO, N.D. – It’s a little louder in Downtown Fargo as crews began installing a removable vehicle barrier system Monday.
The intersection at Broadway and 2nd Avenue North is closed to traffic for road repairs to install 11 bollards and replace bricks in four crosswalks in the area. The city says the current bricks at the intersection are a tripping hazard. Walkers can still get around the construction in the Broadway Square area. The city says the bollards cost a little over $15,000 paid for by sales tax.
Officials with the Downtown Community Partnership requested the steel bollards to protect pedestrians during large public gatherings.
The objective is to lessen the chance for potential vehicle attacks that have taken place in other cities like New Orleans on New Year’s Day.
The city says the closure is expected to last up to one-and-a-half weeks.
There are signs on the road warning of the closure as far as two blocks away.
