DCP Executive Director touts holiday window displays, Small Business Saturday

Downtown Community Partnership Executive Director Rocky Schneider visits with Flag Family News Reporter Chris Larson

FARGO, ND – Downtown Fargo is alive and well, and will be bustling this weekend.

The Downtown Community Partnership (DCP) has unveiled their holiday storefront program and is highlighting an important day for its downtown retailers – Small Business Saturday.

Holiday storefronts

Several businesses downtown have their storefronts decorated for the holidays as part of an event with the DCP.

“It’s the beauty of downtown,” DCP Executive Director Rocky Schneider told Flag Family News. “It’s not just driving into a strip mall. You get to see all the small businesses and they’re all lit up and they have festive window displays.”

The public is invited to vote on their favorite by clicking here. Schneider said it’s the second year in which the DCP invites the community to vote on their favorite.

There are 150,000 holiday lights lining the streets downtown.

Small Business Saturday

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has deemed Saturday as Small Business Saturday.

According to the SBA, Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011. It is an important part of small businesses’ busiest shopping season.

“We know that today and tomorrow this whole weekend is such a busy shopping season for everybody,” Schneider said. “What we’re trying to do is get people to think about their community first. We all shop online, but you know I’m not going to shame anybody for that. We all do that, but if you have an option to come down and buy something locally for any of the small businesses, it goes a long way it’s reinvesting in your community.”
