FARGO, N.D. – Grand Forks Police Officer Cody Holte being shot and killed while helping serve an eviction notice in 2020 has changed the way the Cass County Sheriff’s Office has carried them out.

Sheriff Jesse Jahner explained on “The Coffee Club” on WDAY Radio his office assesses possible threats through surveillance and sometimes calling in the SWAT Team for help.

“They’ve gone through evictions and there’s seven or eight other people living in this place and now, because we don’t know who’s living there, they become very dangerous because, oftentimes, there’s people living there with extensive criminal histories that we’re unaware of,” Jahner said.

Jahner says in instances like that, deputies have sat on an apartment building for two weeks to see who’s going inside.
