BISMARCK, N.D. – Republican North Dakota State Representative Jared Hagert has resigned.
The North Dakota Legislature’s website indicates the resignation of Hagert, a farmer from Emerado, was effective February 9.
Flag Family News reached out to Governor Kelly Armstrong’s office regarding the resignation. Spokesman Mike Nowatzki said the Governor is aware of Hagert’s resignation, but that letters of resignation are not submitted to the Governor.
A post on the North Dakota Legislative Council’s social media said Hagert’s resignation was effective at 8 a.m. on Monday, and says he ‘accepted a position in Washington, DC, for the remainder of the administration’s term.’
In his resignation letter to Senator David Hogue, obtained by Flag Family News from the North Dakota Legislative Council, Hagert said, ‘the acceptance of the position does not allow me to continue my service to North Dakota in a Legislative capacity.’
“The legislature has been a meaningful endeavor that serves as a highlight of my personal and professional experience,” he wrote in his resignation. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my terms of service with the esteemed members of the 67th, 68th and 69th Assemblies and wish you well as you head into another session soon.”
Flag Family News reached out to Hagert, who confirmed his resignation but said he is ‘not at liberty to discuss any other details on a new position.’
