GRAND FORKS COUNTY, N.D. — A man died Friday night from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound following a pursuit in Grand Forks County.
Dispatch received a call after 5:30 p.m. reporting an erratic driver south of Grand Forks.
A trooper located the vehicle south of the city of Grand Forks at mile marker 138 on I-29. The vehicle stopped prior to the trooper turning on red and blue lights to indicate a traffic stop. The trooper approached the vehicle, and requested the driver exit the vehicle. The driver refused and fled in the vehicle.
The chase lasted around one mile, during which time driver’s vehicle became stuck in the median. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
I-29 was shut down at 6 p.m., with one lane reopening 10 minutes later.
Assisting the Highway Patrol were Grand Forks Police, Grand Forks County Sheriff’s deputies and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NDBCI).
No law enforcement officers discharged their firearm.
The NDBCI is assisting with the investigation.
