FARGO, N.D. — The El Zagal Shrine Auxiliary is hosting a unique fundraising event this Saturday, October 3rd, combining designer fashion and firearms to support children in need of mobility equipment.
The “Designer Purses and Pistols Bingo” fundraiser will take place at the El Zagal Shrine Center in North Fargo, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and games starting at 7:00 p.m. Proceeds from the evening will directly benefit the Shrine’s Wheelchair Fund, which provides custom-built wheelchairs to pediatric patients.
“The wheelchairs are actually custom-made per patient in Woodbury, Minnesota,” explained El Zagal Potentate Bruce Ridgway. “Our Fargo [Shrine] main care is rent-free. There’s prosthetics and then wheelchairs, so it’s quite special.”
Auxiliary representative Barb shared how appreciative recipient families have been during past initiatives: “You cannot believe how much response we have gotten from parents about how beneficial that wheelchair is,” she said. “They would tell their story, what they went through, and their appreciation… that is why I’m stuck with the wheelchair fund.”
Bingo winners will have their choice of high-end designer bags—including brands like Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Tory Burch—or firearms. Organizers noted that pistol winners who prefer an alternative prize can exchange the voucher for store credit at local sporting goods retailers.
“The one advantage is if you shout bingo and win a pistol, and that’s really not what you want, you can exchange it at face value,” Barb added.
