ENDERLIN, N.D. (Valley News Live) – It’s been nothing but trying to piece back together what’s been damaged in Enderlin.
Kyle Geske, an Enderlin firefighter, has volunteered to help out neighbors since tornadoes have caused destruction to several homes in the area.
“I’m helping out the neighbors that lost everything they had. My sister’s house was hit and we’ve got to go out there as well. This one is worse so we’re starting here first,” said Geske.
Kyle looks at it as it’s the least he can do, but he’s still trying to fathom what has happened around him.
“It hasn’t really hit yet. It’s all real fresh. There’s a lot going through your mind. You’re just trying to make sure everybody is okay,” said Geske.
As he sees other homes that have been damaged by the tornadoes, he comes out of the experience grateful.
What stood out to Geske when looking at the debris was how fast life can change when a tornado wrecks a person’s home.
“Things can flash before you in the blink of an eye,” said Geske.
Geske’s house was not affected, unlike his sister’s house and his neighbors. When he looked around at the damage at his neighbor’s house, he felt the need to immediately help.
“Given the fact that I live a mile and a half away and it missed my home by less than half a mile. You know that they would’ve done that for you,” said Geske.
It hasn’t just been Geske that has helped with cleaning up; others have chipped in as well.
“That’s what you do in a small community; you help everybody out, whether your neighbor, friend, know them or not, you help them out,” said Geske.
Kyle says that it’s a lot to take in after hearing three people in Enderlin lost their lives from a tornado.
