SPIRIT LAKE NATION – Spirit Lake Nation warns people to not drink or use water for cooking because of an elevated level of manganese.
The chemical has been detected at the tribe’s water treatment plant on May 13 and in a follow-up sample on May 20. Manganese is primarily used in stainless steel.
The Spirit Lake Tribal Council says it isn’t asking people to boil water. The tribe is working on fixing the issue by installing a filtration treatment that’s expected to be in place by late August.
Bottled water is available for families with infants who rely on formula. Starting Thursday, May 29, all households will be able to get some. If you need water delivered, call Spirit Lake Emergency Manager Marty Alex at 701-381-8964 or Vicki Alberts with public relations at 701-381-0789.
