Essentia Health announces million-dollar investment into Downtown Moorhead

MOORHEAD – Officials with Essentia Health and the City of Moorhead announced an investment by the regional healthcare provider that will help revitalize the city’s downtown area.

Essentia Health is investing one million dollars to support the future home of the Moorhead Public Library and Community Center, along with helping to enhance the River Corridor Trail. The enhancements include the newly-named Essentia Health River Walk.

“Essentia Health is thrilled to partner with the City of Moorhead and support a project that will improve the health, well-being and quality of life among people in this community,” said Dr. Stefanie Gefroh, president of Essentia’s West Market. “At Essentia, our mission is to make a healthy difference in people’s lives, and by collaborating with likeminded partners, we can advance that mission, positively impact even more people and deepen our roots in the places we call home.”

Moorhead Mary Shelly Carlson says the investment is more than a donation.

“It’s a powerful statement about the kind of future we’re building in Moorhead,” said Mayor Shelly Carlson. “With this support, we’re creating spaces that promote wellness, connection, and community, indoors and out. The Loop and the River Walk will be places where people of all ages can move, gather, and thrive. We’re incredibly proud to partner with an organization that shares our vision for a vibrant, healthy Moorhead.”

The announcement came after the groups toured the facility and received an update on construction progress.
