BECKER COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Family members have identified the two people found dead Monday in a Detroit Lakes-area shooting as Gene Bartnes and his three-year-old son, Koltyn.
Koltyn’s mother, Kristi Frazier, identified the victims Tuesday morning. Frazier said she believes the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide and said Bartnes left a suicide note.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a home just after noon Monday after a family member went to check on Bartness when he did not show up for work. Investigators said the two were found dead inside the home Monday afternoon.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation.
