Fargo apartment building declared “dangerous” by city inspectors

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The building where there was a SWAT raid in June and an apartment fire in July is now being deemed a “dangerous building” by the City of Fargo.

The building in question is 1202 1st Ave. S.

City Inspectors have cited numerous issues in their decision.

The issues are as follows:

  • Significant wall and window damage to a unit after a SWAT raid on Saturday, June 14
  • The total loss of a basement unit after the fire on July 7
  • Smoke damage to all remaining units due to the July 7 fire
  • 17 calls for service since January 1, 2025
  • Every entry door has been kicked in
  • There have been a multitude of squatters complaints and damage to a main floor unit
  • Electrical meters were removed following a fire
  • Inspection beds were in non-conforming areas following the July 7 fire
  • Basement walls show significant movement with braces in place
  • The existing deck has deteriorated areas of deck boards and guard
  • The property also suffered significant damage after a fire in 2020

The property owners must either obtain a permit and make the necessary repairs or be forced to demolish the building.

There is a hearing regarding the building scheduled with the City Commission for September 2nd.
