Fargo City Commission to consider sales tax to benefit Fargo Fire, Fargo Police

(FARGO) — The Fargo City Commission will discuss the potential for a one-quarter sales, use and gross receipts tax.

The request comes from City Commissioner Denise Kolpack, and would be used exclusively by both Fargo Police and Fargo Fire.

A letter from the presidents of the Fargo Firefighter Local 642 and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 requests the sales tax measure.

“We believe (the request) will bring significant benefits to the City of Fargo, including improved public safety and better working conditions for our dedicated employees,” a letter, signed by Fargo Firefighter Local 642 Eric Eisenlohr and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 President Mike Clower, said.

The tax would be implemented for a term of 20 years.
