Fargo, N.D. – In case you were wondering why the outdoor warning sirens were sounding on a rainy overcast day across Fargo on Tuesday, it was part of a planned test.
All sirens sounded at 1pm, right when a rain system was moving through the area.
Testing typically takes on the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm.
But this past Monday afternoon, the city of Fargo posted on social media in advance of the test to make people aware.
“Siren communications equipment will be removed from one of the water towers scheduled for demolition and placed in a temporary location,” part of the statement read.
“All sirens will be tested after the temporary move to ensure there are no issues.”
The city was in the middle of dismantling the final of three old water towers before switching to a brand new, centralized water tower downtown.
The city says another round of siren testing will take place “after the siren communications equipment is placed in a permanent location” but no date and time has been set.”
The city says “Emergency Management will try to utilize the monthly siren test in August for this purpose.”
