Fargo Police ask for help identifying early Sunday morning assault suspects

FARGO, ND – Local authorities are asking the public to help identify two assault suspects.

While the Fargo Police Department was responding to the two shootings in Fargo early Sunday morning, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault downtown.

Lieutenant Nate Nieman, who is the police department’s Criminal Investigation Unit Commander, says the victim was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Nieman also says the department has confirmed that the assault ‘is entirely separate from the earlier shooting.’

On Tuesday, the police department was notified that the victim’s injuries were life-threatening, which led to an investigation.

“Detectives have since reviewed surveillance footage from the area and have confirmed that the victim was assaulted in the 300 block of Broadway North,” Nieman said.

Cass County Captain Tim Briggeman says he received a call on Tuesday from a Fargo Police Lieutenant regarding the early Sunday morning assault – which was the first time he had heard about it, other than noting two deputies responded.

Regarding the incident, Briggeman said the call was generated at 3:08 a.m. His deputies were on another call for service and cleared that call, receiving the call at 3:23 a.m., responding to the 300 block of Broadway emergent – and arrived on scene just three minutes later.

The victim of the assault was in the ambulance on a gurney.

“The details that our deputies received was that they were there for an uncooperative or an unruly patient,” Briggeman said. “Our deputies did assist in adequately restraining this individual.”

There was limited documentation in the Cass County Sheriff’s Office’s call log, Captain Briggeman said.

“It wasn’t a call for service that was noted that we saw in our calls for service, whether it be a priority call or report that we had reviewed,” he said.

After the call from Fargo Police, Briggeman provided the police department with body worn camera footage and phone contact with the two deputies that had responded. Reports were also finished and are being sent to the Fargo Police Department.
