Fargo Police Chief reports camping ordinance violations have dropped off

FARGO, ND – It’s been more than three weeks since the City of Fargo began banning camping, but officials say they’re already seeing improvement.

“Our folks told me, as of yesterday, there were no camps anywhere that could be found,” Police Chief David Zibolski said.

He credited Fargo Public Works and the Fargo Park District for the work they’ve done following up on reported camps and cleaning those areas up.

“They were pretty bad,” Zibolski said. “We’ve got some nice areas that are now walkable on the river. A lot of that stuff cleaned up, so I think that’s come along really well.”

While permanent housing is still being worked on by groups across the metro, Zibolski said he calls the work done to curb camping ‘a huge success story.’

“We’ve gotten a lot of much more positive feedback from our businesses,” he said.
