Fargo, N.D. – Fargo police are paying attention to a nationwide protest that features a local event that will take place this coming Saturday.
But Police Chief David Zibolski isn’t expecting any serious trouble during the event.
The NO KINGS Nationwide Day of Defiance by the group Indivisible on June 14th happens to coincide with the recent immigration demonstrations in Los Angeles, but was scheduled well in advance of those protests.
The Fargo event will take place outside City Hall from 1pm to 3pm, featuring performances by people in circus and clown costumes to protest President Trump’s tax cuts and tariffs.
The local demonstration is being by organized by Fearless and Red River United, Indivisible’s local Fargo and Moorhead chapters.
June 14th is also Flag Day, and the same day President Trump will hold a military parade in Washington D.C..
“Lawful peaceful protest is not an issue for us at all,” Zibolski said during a phone interview with The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind? “But certainly we would not abide in terms of property damage or injury to others.”
“We don’t have any indication that anything like that is going to occur [at Saturday’s protest locally] and has not.”
Zibolski says they are preparing to secure next week’s Fargo Police Community Picnic at Broadway Square on June 18th, and the Downtown Fargo Street Fair in July.
The city recently installed removable steel barriers at the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and Broadway to protect pedestrians from vehicles driving through the events, and preventing any potential terror attacks like ones that have taken place in New Orleans this year.
