Fargo Police say swimmer safe after struggling in the Sheyenne River

(FARGO, ND) – Fargo Police have determined that an individual entered the Sheyenne River earlier this afternoon.

According to Lieutenant Matt Siders, of the Neighborhood Services Division, Fargo Police and Fire crews were called to a report of a possible water emergency. The caller contacted 9-1-1 while watching a social media livestream showing a person swimming and appearing to struggle in a river.

The caller reported the incident was occurring by the Fargo Rail Bridge. That led officers to the Red River, where crews responded and searched the area but did not find anyone in the river. A follow-up investigation determined the individual had entered the Sheyenne River, not the Red River. The individual was able to exit the river safely without assistance.

Officers contacted the individuals involved and confirmed everyone is accounted for and safe.

No arrests or citations have been issued.
