Fargo Police warn of scammers accessing people’s Verizon accounts

FARGO, N.D. – Fargo Police warn of Verizon customers being scammed.

Authorities say scammers are using personal information to open new accounts or access existing accounts. They then buy phones, internet service and modems. Sometime they’re shipped to the customer’s address.

In one case, police say someone got a phone call from someone claiming to be from Verizon security saying they found fraud on their account. The caller wanted remote access to the person’s phone to cancel an iPhone purchase and told them to return shipping labels emailed to them to send the package back once it was delivered.

Fargo Police suggest using strong passwords and two-factor authentication, contact Verizon if you see suspicious activity on your account, and report fraud by calling 911 or Red River Dispatch at 701-451-7660.
