Fargo to consider ‘indefinitely’ punting on decision to make mayor’s role full time

FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo City Commission will consider a recommendation to further push off a decision to possibly convert the mayor’s roll into a full-time position.

An item on the agenda for September 29th’s regular meeting says the panel will take up the matter “to delay indefinitely the full-time Mayor position.”

The panel had initially voted in favor of a study to look into the possibility before the 2026 mayoral election.

The city’s governing body was not only considered transforming the mayor’s role, but also adding up to two more commissioners.

Mayor Tim Mahoney, who will leave office next year based on term limits, backed the idea of changing the mayor’s job to full-time status with an annual salary of $100,000.
