FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The Fargo VA Health Care System helped 177 homeless veterans find permanent housing in fiscal year 2025, part of a nationwide effort that housed nearly 52,000 veterans.
The Department of Veterans Affairs permanently housed 51,936 homeless veterans nationwide, 4,011 more than in 2024.
The numbers represent the VA’s best national performance since it began tracking individual veterans housed rather than total housing placements in 2022.
“This is life-changing and in many cases life-saving work,” said Brent Pharis, VA Fargo Health Care System director. “We are proud of the progress VA Fargo is making to get veterans off the streets and are redoubling our efforts to continue this momentum moving forward.”
The VA launched its “Getting Veterans Off the Street” initiative in May 2025. The initiative helped move 25,065 unsheltered veterans to interim or permanent housing.
On May 9, President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a National Center for Warrior Independence for Homeless Veterans on the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center campus.
The center aims to provide housing and support for up to 6,000 homeless veterans from across the nation by 2028.
