(FARGO, ND) – Crime is down in Fargo.
While overall crime is down nearly seven percent in the city, Police Chief David Zibolski told the Fargo City Commission on Monday that some areas are continuing to rise.
For example, rapes were up 27-percent last year, and the city also saw 6 homicides compared to just 2 the year before.
“The only good thing that we can say about that is all of them are cleared,” Zibolski said regarding the homicide data.
Zibolski said that the department is looking closer at the rape statistics, saying there are some issues with the city’s statutes relating to prosecution of the crimes.
Approximately 54 of the cases involved known persons.
Arson, burglary, assaults and motor vehicle thefts are all down, while shoplifting has increased.
“Shoplifting and theft are the highest volume crimes that we’re seeing across our city,” Zibolski said.
Shots fired cases are up 12 percent, from 23 cases in 2023 to 26 cases in 2024. Of those, five have been cleared.
The highest number of shots fired cases was 38 in 2022.
