WEST FARGO, N.D. – A generous community turned out Friday for the annual Fill the Boot event at the West Fargo Rural Fire Department.
The annual event is held at the rural fire department annual to raise funds for the Golden Drive Homeless Kids non-profit organization, which provides items to local schools and other organizations for children facing homelessness in Fargo-Moorhead.
This year’s event raised $11,501.
Among the guests that attended this year’s Fill the Boot event was Jay Thomas, host of The Jay Thomas Show on WDAY Radio, Scoopie the Culver’s mascot, the Grinch and Santa Claus himself. Many other civic leaders – West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis among them – also attended the event.
Thomas himself has been instrumental in the success of both the Fill the Boot event and another – the Golden Drive’s annual sock drive. On Friday, it was announced that a record 46,215 pairs of socks were donated by organizations and individuals across the metro.
Among the organization donating socks were the West Fargo Police Department, which won a traveling trophy among the area law enforcement organizations. West Fargo Police donated 14,405 pair of socks.
