Finalists announced for NDSU president opening

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University Presidential Search Committee has announced three finalists to become the 16th president of the university.

Each one will have a public, on campus interview this month at the Anishinaabe Theater at 2:00 the day of their event where the community can ask them questions.

Doctor Marshall Stewart is the executive vice president for external engagement at Kansas State University. He’s set to interview on March 23.

Doctor Bernie Savarese is the vice president for academic affairs, research and student success at University of Tennessee. He’s set to interview on March 24.

Doctor Alan Smith is the Emma Eccles Jones endowed dean and former interim president of Utah State University. He’s set to interview on March 25.

“Selecting the next president of NDSU is an important responsibility, and broad participation helps ensure we identify a leader who understands the university’s strengths and the needs of the state,” NDSU Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair Kevin Black said. “We are proud to invite a strong pool of finalists to campus and appreciate the time and attention the NDSU community and our partners throughout Fargo and North Dakota dedicate to this process.”

The search committee will recommend a finalist to the State Board of Higher Education during its meeting on March 27. Final interviews are set for March 30 with the board’s decision announced the same day.

NDSU officials say 60 people applied for its president position. Flag Family News reached out to the university to see how many internal candidates applied.
