Fire destroys elevator in Mayville

MAYVILLE, ND — Fire has destroyed an elevator in Mayville.

Mayville Fire, along with several other departments, battled the blaze late into the night Saturday. The elevator was located just south of the Mayville fire station.

As a precaution, homeowners within an 8-block radius were asked to hose down their rooftops to help conserve water for the fire departments.

The fire was determined to be contained after midnight.

“We will keep 2nd Avenue blocked off most likely for a couple days,”  Mayville Fire Chief Rich Hart said in a statement. “Please just refrain from going near the scene. We will continue to monitor as it will smolder for a few days.”
