FIRST ON FLAG FAMILY: Fargo Police Chief says new information on Holmes shooting death could come this week

FARGO, N.D. – Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski said he hopes to soon give updates in the investigation into the August 3 shooting death of Azeem Holmes.

“We are well on our way to, I think, making some good progress for the family in this case and we hope to have some updates maybe even later this week,” Zibolski said on “What’s On Your Mind?” on The Flag.

Tyrque Jones was the prime suspect in the downtown shooting and was on the run for four months. He was arrested December 3 in Minneapolis. Charges against him related to Holmes’ death were dropped after Fargo Police interviewed him at the Hennepin County Jail and looked at video evidence.

Zibolski said some people believe releasing a suspect after getting information pointing police in a different direction “is some kind of an anomaly.”

“Charlie Kirk, they arrested someone right away. Turned out to be the wrong guy. Brown University just last week, a mass shooting out there. Arrested someone, thought they had the right guy. They had the wrong guy,” Zibolski explained.
