FIRST ON FLAG FAMILY: Hennen to receive Vision Zero Traffic Safety Media Award

BISMARCK, N.D. – Flag Family Media’s Scott Hennen will receive an award from North Dakota Vision Zero later this spring.

On Friday, Hennen was notified that he is the recipient of the Vision Zero Traffic Safety Media Award. The award is designed to recognize a reporter/news organization for their reporting on traffic safety.

Hennen was nominated by North Dakota Highway Patrol Southeast Region Commander, Captain Bryan Niewind.

“Mr. Hennen and AM 1100 The Flag have always shown support for the NDHP, ND Vision Zero, all law enforcement, and traffic safety related topics,” he said in Hennen’s nomination.

“I’m very honored to get that award,” Hennen said. “It’s a labor of love. I love the idea of people arriving alive. Just make sure you get home, be safe.”

Niewind said his main reason for nominating Hennen is his support for the primary seat belt law in North Dakota. The law was passed by the North Dakota legislature in 2023, and Hennen continues to support the law to this day, Niewind said.

“Since its passage, Mr. Hennen has doubled down on his support for the primary seat belt law and we discuss seat belt issues on most of my appearances,” he said. “Mr. Hennen was able to see through the hyperbole surrounding the discussions involving the need for the primary seat belt law and saw the law for what it was, a way to get more people to wear their seat belts (compliance), which would save lives and people from serious injuries, which is the goal of ND Vision Zero.”
