Fischbach nominates local students to service academies

WASHINGTON – Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach has nominated two area students to service academies across the country.

She announced Monday that East Grand Forks senior Owen Kliniske is being nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and Moorhead senior Brady Steffen is being nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“Thank you to each of the students who applied to the service academies through my office,” said Rep. Fischbach. “I appreciate seeing young men and women from Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District who are passionate about serving our country. This path is not an easy one, but one that should be celebrated and encouraged as these students dedicate themselves to our great nation. They are already leaders in their communities and have the potential to go on to lead through their service to the United States of America.”

If the students are accepted, upon their graduation from the academy, the cadets will earn a Bachelor of Science degree and will have become commissioned officers in the U.S. military. The students would also serve a minimum of five years in active-duty service to our country.
