Former Minnesota senator begins serving her jail sentence

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Lawyers for former Minnesota senator Nicole Mitchell have confirmed that she has begun her six-month sentence at the Ramsey County Correctional Facility in St. Paul.

On September 23, Mitchell was sentenced to 180 days in jail along with five years of supervised probation, and was allowed to serve her time closer to home, and was also granted work release.

According to Ramsey County jail records, Mitchell reported to the jail at 11:31 am on September 30.

In July, a jury found Mitchell guilty of felony first-degree burglary and possession of burglary or theft tools for breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home in April 2024.

Lawyers from Mitchell expect her to serve two-thirds of her sentence before being released on parole.

If Mitchell does get released after four months in jail, her projected release date is January 25, 2026, according to the Ramsey County Correctional Facility.
