Founders of longtime Detroit Lakes apparel store step away from leadership roles

Detroit Lakes, M.N. – More than 40 years after creating their popular apparel business in Minnesota, the co-founders of Lakeshirts are stepping aside as leaders of their own company.

According to the company’s Facebook page, Mark Fritz and Mike Hutchinson will stay on as advisors and remain on the company’s board of directors.

Fritz and Hutchinson launched the company out of Detroit Lakes in 1984, and have expanded nationally and international over the course of four decades.

David Best, who has a business background working in leadership positions with Target and General Mills, is taking over as CEO this summer.

“This transition isn’t about changing, it’s about growing stronger together,” the company wrote in the social media post on Tuesday.

Despite the shakeup, the post went on to say Lakeshirts will “continue to thrive as a national leader in custom-decorated apparel and accessories.”
