Gov. Armstrong calls line item veto ‘a mistake’ over funds cut

BISMARCK, N.D. – Governor Kelly Armstrong called his veto targeting a single line of a budget bill “a mistake.”

A veto letter was published Monday with Armstrong striking $150,000 for a liaison addressing homelessness in tribal communities.

The line-item veto resulted in nixing the entire section including $35 million for housing needs. The bill was sent to the Secretary of State and didn’t include section seven, which removed the funding from the state’s budget.

Armstrong says he can call the legislature back to correct the funding issue.
