Grants available to detect noxious & invasive weeds using drones in ND

NORTH DAKOTA -Three hundred thousand dollars in grants is available for drone-based detection of noxious and invasive weeds in five North Dakota counties.

The project will focus on sugar beet and soybean fields in Cass, Barnes, Steele, Traill and Barnes counties. Other counties may be added as necessary.

Those given grants will work with North Dakota’s Department of Agriculture, weed officers and landowners when flying drones over fields. The goal is to get pictures and video to identify the difference between amaranth species.

The money for the grants was approved in a bill signed into law by Governor Kelly Armstrong.
